How do I choose a serving tray for a bar?

When choosing a serving tray for a bar, you need to consider several criteria to ensure that it is functional, durable and suitable for the working environment. Evaluate the specific needs of your working environment, the style you want and the level of durability you require. By taking these criteria into account, you will be able to choose a tray that meets your needs, but also contributes to the overall aesthetics of your bar.

Material: Plastic is lightweight, durable, easy to clean and economical. It is ideal for heavy use. Stainless steel is tough and durable, you can also choose aluminium for a modern and industrial look. Wood is aesthetic and warm, but can be heavier and requires more maintenance. Composite fibre is a combination of materials for added durability, and composite fibre trays are often non-slip.

Size and shape: Choose a size that will comfortably hold several glasses and plates without being too bulky. Round trays are common for drinks, while rectangular or oval trays may be more practical for plates.

Weight: A tray that is too heavy can be difficult to handle, especially if it is likely to be loaded. Look for a good balance between strength and lightness.

Raised edges: Raised edges can help contain spills and hold glasses or cups in place.

Maintenance: Look for trays that are easy to clean and stain resistant. Materials such as plastic or stainless steel are often the easiest to maintain.

Aesthetics: Choose a tray that complements the style of your bar. Options range from simple and functional to decorative and elegant.

Budget: Set a budget that allows you to get a good quality tray without compromising on durability or aesthetics. Specific recommendations: the non-slip plastic top is perfect for intensive daily use thanks to its lightness and safe surface. A metal top with edges is ideal for a modern or industrial style bar, robust and durable. A lacquered wooden top is suitable for a classic or rustic style bar, but requires more maintenance.

Professional self-service trays

In this family of catering trays, we find mainly the rectangular plastic (polypropylene) tray, which is virtually unbreakable, relatively large and lighter than a stainless-steel tray. The black self-service tray is most commonly used in canteen catering, but it is also available in red, grey or brown. This tray is of course dishwasher safe, but also microwave safe if you want to heat the food on the tray. This tray is also perfect for use as a fast-food tray. Buffet Plus has a permanent stock of these self-service tray models, which are suitable for professional trolleys that can be used in canteens, self-service trays and restaurants. Some trolley models can be equipped with accessories such as cutlery trays.

Why choose a round tray?

Choosing a round serving tray can offer several practical and aesthetic benefits, as a round serving tray combines aesthetics, practicality and versatility, making it a popular choice in many service environments, restaurants, bars and private events.

Aesthetics and presentation: Round trays have an elegant and balanced appearance that can add a sophisticated touch to the service and presentation of food and drink. Their circular shape allows for a uniform layout, creating a visually appealing presentation.

Practical and ergonomic: Round trays are often easier to manoeuvre and transport, especially in tight or confined spaces. The circular shape helps to evenly distribute the weight of the items being carried, reducing the risk of tipping or spillage.

Capacity and versatility: Round trays offer a large usable surface area, allowing you to carry several items at once, such as glasses, plates, cutlery, etc. They are suitable for a variety of situations, whether serving drinks, food, appetisers or for use at buffets and events.

User-friendly: Round trays allow customers and guests to easily serve themselves from all sides, which is ideal for events where they can gather around the tray. They facilitate smooth operations in service areas such as restaurants and receptions as they can be handled without worrying about corners or edges.

Cleaning and storage: Round trays are often easier to clean as there are no hard-to-reach corners where residue can collect. They are generally easier to stack and store, saving storage space.
