How do I choose a buffet display?

There are several criteria to consider when choosing a buffet display to ensure that it meets the specific needs of the event you are organising or your catering establishment. Here are some criteria to help a catering professional choose a buffet display that not only meets their practical needs, but also enhances the customer experience and overall presentation of the food and dishes presented on a buffet.

Type of event or establishment: what is the style of the event, formal, casual, themed, or your establishment, restaurant, hotel, caterer? Does the display need to be adapted to a specific type of cuisine or service, breakfast, brunch, dessert buffet?

Material and quality: what materials are used for the display, wood, metal, glass, acrylic or porcelain, and are they durable and easy to clean? Does the material need to be heat or cold resistant, depending on the food to be displayed?

Design and aesthetics: Does the design of the display match the theme or décor of the event or establishment? Do you prefer a modern, rustic, elegant or minimalist style?

Capacity and size: What is the capacity of the display, how many dishes or portions can it hold? Are the dimensions adapted to the space available on the buffet or display table?

Functionality and practicality: Is the display modular or stackable for easy storage and flexible use? Does it have compartments or shelves for effective and attractive presentation of dishes and food?

Accessibility and ergonomics: can customers easily access food without risk of spilling or disturbing the presentation? Is the display at a comfortable height for easy service?

Hygiene and food safety: can the display unit keep food at the correct temperature, refrigerated or heated? Is it easy to clean and disinfect for perfect hygiene?

Budget: What is the budget for purchasing display units? Are there display options that offer good value for money? while meeting the other criteria?

Versatility: Can the display be used for different types of events or presentations? Is it suitable for different types of food, solid, liquid, hot or cold?

Return on investment: Is the display durable and resistant to long-term use? Can it help improve customer experience and satisfaction, which could translate into increased sales or customer referrals?

How do I care for and clean buffet displays?

The care and cleaning of your buffet display will depend on the material of your display or buffet stand.

Stainless steel is the easiest material to clean: if the size of your buffet allows, you can of course use a dishwasher. Otherwise, you can use washing-up liquid and water, or vinegar or a few drops of lemon juice to remove stains.

Melamine is also easy to clean and can be washed in the dishwasher at a maximum temperature of 70°C. You can also use washing-up liquid and water. Avoid scouring powders, which can scratch the surface, and don't use chlorine-based detergents.

Chromed metal should not be soaked in water: if you need to clean it, use water and washing-up liquid and a soft cloth to dry your buffet stand immediately.

Wood (oak, olive, acacia) is a natural product with many qualities, but it also requires special care: it is a "working" material, it can shrink or expand under the effect of humidity and temperature. It can be oiled to prevent grease stains and increase its natural resistance to moisture.
